About Scripture Engagement Partnership
The purpose of STEP is to engage with the Church in a participatory way to enable the Church to produce Scripture-related print and non-print media products for use in proclamation ministries in the Church, in Church ministry and Mission, to help individuals engage with God’s Word and apply it in their daily lives.
Purpose
Currently many local churches in NE India have little engagement with the languages in the communities where they are undertaking cross-cultural and cross-linguistic ministry outreach. Additionally, many smaller languages have no vernacular Scripture materials at all, and some are limited to the translated New Testament. Further, many language communities and the churches which minister to/with them have little ability (training) to produce such (vernacular) materials to enable cross-language and cross-cultural ministry outreach, for the purpose of enhancing the spiritual growth of their communities and congregations. There is a great desire for such materials – including the Luke Video series, the Jesus Film, Sunday School materials/curriculum, The Hope Video, original songs and translated hymns, Audio Bible, Oral Bible Stories (OBS) – but there is little knowledge of how to produce such materials, and the challenges that the Church and these communities face in their production prevent them from moving forward on such projects. Few practical knowledge resources are available to these somewhat isolated church outreaches and communities which would allow them to take the necessary steps toward production of the needed materials/resources. Additionally, the technicalities of the task – involving recording audio and video, composing, translating – often seem insurmountable.
